Lausanne space for contemporary art

5, av. du Temple, 1020 Renens. Opening hours Wednesday to Friday 13h to 17h30

On June 28, 1997, the opening of l'elac, the Lausanne space for contemporary art took place with the first exhibition of ECAL students’ diploma works. This place, in the heart of Lausanne – the Flon area – brought to the school a unique tool to pursue its efforts of thinking about today’s art and design, and to the public an original place to discover contemporary creation.

As a non-profit-making association, the elac came out to fill the lack of proper structures devoted to contemporary creation in this city.

In October 2007, the elac will move to Renens/Lausanne into the ECAL’s new walls. With a surface of 550 m2, this gallery will become one of the largest ones belonging to a school and a prestigious showcase for contemporary art and design in our Canton. It is also an essential research tool to achieve the mandate granted to Art and Design universities.

The elac is the logical extension of both educational and artistic trends set at the ECAL since October 1995. We are convinced that the organization of exhibitions is an important complement to the teaching.
