GLASSWORKS x ECAL at TRESOR Contemporary Craft
21–24.09.2017
Messe Basel

Matteo Gonet (Glassworks) and ECAL have teamed in order to design and produce a glass chandelier.

The project was directed by London-based designer Bethan Laura Wood and involved the students of the Master of Advanced Studies in Design for Luxury and Craftsmanship of ECAL.

At the end of a workshop, "Goethe", the project created by a group of four students (Savvas Laz, Maximilian Maertens, Mauro Martinho, Enrico Pietra), was selected and produced into a working prototype by the Münchenstein-based glassblower. From the colorful universe of sweets, these students focused on the creation of a wide variety of pieces to illustrate the different techniques that only glassblowers can master. The tubular forms interlockwith a metal structure to create a unique installation, such as a contemporary chandelier, resulting in a perfect celebration of student’s creativity and craftsmanship.
