Hawker Centres are traditional dinning halls where Singaporean gather to eat together daily. More than a restaurant, these places
are a real melting pot of cultures in Singapore, mainly between
the Chinese, Malays and Indians.
The aim of the workshop was to immerse the students for one week in the heart of Singapore’s cosmopolitan culture through the Hawker Centres. ECAL and NUS students worked together and designed objects such as utensils, tableware packagings or signage that improves the experience of customers and cooks.
All the prototypes have been produced in the NUS « prototyping lab ». This workshop allowed the students from both universities to share their know-how in the field of industrial design. The result of this research reflects a wide variety of design solutions that improves Hawker Centres in Singapore.
