Soirée Action Innocence

ECAL x Hôtel Président Wilson

For several years now, Hôtel Président Wilson has hosted the Action Innocence evening, an association founded and chaired by Ms. Valérie Wertheimer, whose goal is to ensure the safe use of the Internet for children. On this occasion, the Foundation is offering some twenty Boutiques located on Rue du Rhône in Geneva to create and offer an original Christmas tree to be auctioned for the benefit of Action Innocence.

For this new edition, Hôtel Président Wilson invited Master of Advanced Studies in Design for Luxury & Craftsmanship students from ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne to design their Christmas trees. Among ten proposals, a jury selected the project designed by Sunny Oh (31 years old, South Korea/United States) and Paula Chacartegui (24 years old, Spain).

Inspired by the technique of upholstery, these two students created a tree that perfectly illustrates the warmth of Christmas, while highlighting the values of craftsmanship and luxury. The production of this piece was entrusted to the Lausanne-based craftsman Vladimir Boson. With years of experience in various workshops, this upholstery specialist is used to working with internationally renowned designers and artists.

For the design of the project Sunny and Paula chose a fabric produced by the Danish company Kvadrat, one of the leaders in the textile industry. This material specifically reminds the needles of a fir tree and adds a more festive spirit to the object. Polished and engraved brass discs complete the work. Combining successive layers of fabric, foam and wood, these buttons create the quilted effect and remind us of Christmas decorations.
