Admission

Admission to a Master is done through a competitive examination, which assesses the artistic and creative abilities of the candidates.

Necessary qualifications
Master in Fine Arts (European Art Ensemble)
  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of Art and Design
  • or equivalent foreign certificate*
Master in Photography
  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of Visual Communication or Visual Artsº
  • or equivalent foreign certificate*

º Bachelor's degree holders from another field, but whom can justify an extensive experience of photography are invited to contact ECAL's secretariat by email inscription@ecal.ch before 4 March 2024.
 

Master in Type Design
  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of Visual Communicationº
  • or equivalent foreign certificate*

º Bachelor's degree holders from another field, but whom can justify an extensive experience of type design are invited to contact ECAL's secretariat by email inscription@ecal.ch before 4 March 2024.

Master in Product Design
  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of 3D Design
  • or equivalent foreign certificate*
Master in Film Studies (every two years > next competitive exmamination in 2024)
  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • or equivalent foreign certificate*

 

* ECAL evaluates title's equivalences. This procedure being relatively long, a request of examination (Diploma, transcripts & cv) must be submitted by email to ECAL Secretariat inscription@ecal.ch until 4 March 2024 the latest.

> Request of evaluation submitted after the above mentionned date will not be processed.

Administrative file
  • a curriculum vitae
  • a copy of passport or identity card
  • a copy of Bachelor's degree (or equivalent certificate), diploma supplement and transcripts (an authentic translation is required for languages other than French, German, Italian English and Spanish).
Portfolio
  • a presentation and motivation letter
  • a short description of the Master project
  • a representative portfolio of recent works. Films or other moving images will only be accepted via a "Vimeo channel". 
Application file (ASD-M)

The master’s admissions process that is based on an application file (ASD-M) gives candidates without an undergraduate degree (or equivalent) the opportunity to enrol in a master’s programme at a university of applied sciences (HES).

In order to be eligible, candidates must :

  • be at least 25 years old at the time of application.
  • have at least seven years of professional or artistic experience in their chosen field. Candidates need to provide evidence of their activities by submitting letters of recommendation and a portfolio outlining all of their artistic and/or design-related projects and achievements.
