Generally perceived as a simple way to immerse the spectator, 3D cinema is also often regarded just as a marketing argument. Consequently, studies on the implications of stereoscopy on cinematographic language are still very rare. Thus, the main goal of the project is to understand how 3D can be used in a film as an instrument for narration. Consequently, the general objective of the project is to study the influence of 3D on :
- the impact of images on the spectator
- the framing, cutting, montage and post-production of a film
- the creation of special effects.
To this end, several particular objectives were defined :
- Enriching the state of the art related to 3D cinema in through readings, interviews, film analysis and meetings with experts.
- Making a synthesis and making accessible the theoretical basis necessary to the comprehension of 3D images.
- Experimenting in real or virtual images the formal and aesthetic aspects of 3D images (fixed image, movements of camera, montage, distance between centres, angulation,…).
- Studying more specifically how 3D can create emotion and not only feeling.
